Clock tower illuminated in blue to commemorate World Diabetes Day :

Directorate of Health Services Kashmir (DHSK) observed World Diabetes Day today in response to the escalating prevalence of diabetes in Kashmir. The theme for World Diabetes Day for this year was “Women & Diabetes”. This day is celebrated world-wide in order to raise awareness of this chronic, debilitating and costly disease among children, adults, health care professionals, decision makers and others. Special focus was given among women folk in today’s event across Kashmir Division.

On this day, various hospitals along with historic Clock tower (Ganta Ghar) at Lal chowk, Srinagar was illuminated in blue light in order to create awareness among masses about the importance of the day and the disease. Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir organized screening camps across various health institutions including District Hospitals, Sub District Hospitals and various Primary Health Centers along.

Apart from screening of diabetes using glucometers, IEC activities were also conducted on this day which included distribution of pamphlets among people on diabetes care and person to person interaction.

It is pertinent to mention here that DHSK has been conducting free screening camps and disseminating knowledge regarding its prevention and treatment across Kashmir Division since last several years. Under National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardio vascular Diseases & Stroke (NPCDCS), more than 9 lakh people have been screened since 2012.
