Ramban, April 20: In view of the ongoing inclement weather and flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall and a cloudburst, the District Administration Ramban has ordered the closure of all government and private schools, colleges, and technical education institutions on Monday, April 21.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary emphasized that the decision to close educational institutions is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring the safety of students and staff. “Stay indoors, stay safe,” the DC advised, urging residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.
Earlier, A cloudburst in Ramban district led to devastating flash floods, resulting in the tragic loss of three lives and causing significant damage to several residential houses. In addition, numerous livestock, including sheep and goats belonging to members of the Gujjar and Bakerwal communities, perished in the floods.
Over 100 people who were trapped in the flooded areas were safely rescued by joint teams of police and local administration. Meanwhile, landslides blocked several stretches of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), with clearance operations currently underway to restore connectivity.
Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing, and the administration is closely monitoring the situation.
