Srinagar, April 9: MLA Handwara Sajad Gani Lone on Tuesday raised strong objections in the Assembly over the handling of the Waqf issue, asserting that the Assembly belongs to everyone, not just the National Conference or any single party.
“This is a Muslim issue, and we are the only Muslim-majority state in the country. A strong message should go from here,” Lone said.
He said history will judge them harshly if they fail to uphold the dignity of such matters. “We had suggested the Speaker retire for half an hour so that Mubarak Gul could preside.
Even that was denied,” he said.
Lone added that since the Speaker did not withdraw his ruling, they were left with no option but to move a no-confidence motion. “We respect the Speaker, but on this issue, we had to act,” he said.
“If National Conference supports the motion, it shows they stand with Waqf. If not, their words and actions are clearly different,” Lone concluded. (KNS)
