Srinagar, April 15: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Daughter of Mehbooba Mufti, Iltija Mufti on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the National Conference (NC), accusing the party of maintaining a “convenient silence” on the controversial Waqf Act and alleging a tacit understanding between the NC and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"Farooq Sahib, whose own son is the Chief Minister, should explain what the CM was doing during the Assembly session. While states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have passed resolutions against the Waqf Act, the CM was strolling with Rijiju ji in the Tulip Garden,"Iltija Mufti said as per Sachnews Jammu Kashmir.
Mufti also alleged that during NC’s rule, there was rampant corruption in the management of AUQAF (Waqf) properties. “Earlier, NC used to allot AUQAF properties to its own people during auctions. Everyone knows the extent of corruption that existed under their rule,” she said.
Highlighting the contrast, she said, “Mufti Syeed saab was Chief Minister for three years, and during his tenure, transparency and accountability were brought into AUQAF, something that was completely missing during the NC’s time.”
She expressed disappointment over NC’s failure to address the Waqf issue. “Saying the matter is sub-judice is a very convenient excuse not to talk about it. This National Conference government has let down the Muslims of Jammu & Kashmir.”
Mufti further accused the NC of normalising the abrogation of Article 370. “You are normalising the abrogation. Omar Abdullah is the CM of a Muslim-majority state, yet he remains silent on the Waqf Act,” she added.
Wrapping up her remarks, Mufti accused the NC of aligning silently with the BJP. “The people of J&K feel let down. There is clearly a tacit understanding between the NC and the BJP,” she said.
