Srinagar, April 10:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project on April 19, marking a historic milestone in the country’s railway infrastructure and significantly boosting connectivity to the Kashmir Valley.
Speaking to the media, Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of Information & Publicity, Railway Board, as per Sachnews Jammu Kashmir said the USBRL project holds great national significance. “It has been the dream of every Indian to see a train running into Kashmir. For this, we have made long preparations, and now this USBRL section is ready for dedication to the nation,” he said.
The USBRL project, which spans 272 kilometers, includes a remarkable 119-kilometre stretch of tunnels, making it one of the most complex and ambitious railway undertakings in the country. “This entire area is crucial from the religious, tourism, and connectivity point of view. The Prime Minister’s inauguration of this project will benefit people across the country,” Kumar added.
According to current planning, two Vande Bharat Express trains will begin operations on the day of the inauguration. “One train will operate from Srinagar, and the other from Katra to Srinagar,” Kumar said.
The project is expected to transform transportation in Jammu and Kashmir, providing faster, safer, and more reliable travel options while also promoting economic development and tourism in the region.
The USBRL project, under construction for several years, has involved significant engineering challenges due to the region's difficult terrain and climate. Its completion is being hailed as a major achievement in India’s railway history.
