Jammu, April 9: Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) MLA Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh on Tuesday strongly criticized the functioning of the ongoing assembly session, calling for its extension and accusing the government of avoiding accountability over key legislative matters, including the Waqf Amendment Bill.
“This was totally expected,” Sheikh remarked, referring to the disruption and limited functioning of the assembly over the past few days. “We demand that the session be extended for at least five days to make up for the three days lost. Several private member resolutions are still pending and deserve proper debate.”
The MLA also took a sharp dig at the absence of Leader from the House. “The leader of the house is absent from the assembly. He is enjoying in the Tulip Garden with the same minister who presented the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament,” Sheikh alleged.
He further emphasized that they have submitted a resolution against the Waqf Amendment Bill, they also seek discussion on a broader set of public issues. “They cannot be bailed out. Even the people have understood that there seems to be an understanding between them and the BJP,” he said as per Sachnews Jammu Kashmir.
Sheikh urged the government to support the no-confidence motion moved by opposition members if it is serious about upholding democratic debate and accountability in the House.
