Ramban, April 20: In the wake of widespread devastation caused by landslides and flash floods in Ramban, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Saturday visited the affected areas of Ramban to assess the ground situation and oversee relief operations.

According to Sachnews Jammu Kashmir, the Deputy CM was Accompanied by Ramban MLA Arjun Singh Raju and Banihal MLA Sajad Shaheen, the Deputy CM expressed deep concern over the extent of damage across Ramban, Banihal and adjoining areas.

Speaking to reporters, Choudhary as per Sachnews Jammu Kashmir said, "This is not just about Ramban, Banihal and several other areas have also been badly hit. Both Hon’ble MLAs of Ramban and Banihal are with me, and they have spoken directly to the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah. Acting on his directions, I have reached Ramban to monitor the situation firsthand.”

Highlighting the seriousness of the government’s response, Choudhary added, “If the Deputy Chief Minister has arrived here on the instructions of the CM, it clearly shows that the government is treating this situation with utmost seriousness. The administration is actively working on rescue and relief efforts, and the government stands firmly with the people in this hour of distress.”

He further assured that necessary measures would be taken to address the grievances of the affected population. “I will personally brief the Chief Minister once I return to Jammu. Wherever losses have been reported—whether in Daramkund, Seri, or elsewhere, the government will ensure proper compensation. I’ve also directed the ADC to arrange food for stranded drivers and travelers, and to provide essential supplies and first aid as required.”

The Deputy CM acknowledged the challenges being faced by the rescue teams due to road blockages and ongoing inclement weather. “Accessing some areas remains difficult due to blocked routes. Although I was unable to reach Banihal because the road is closed, the administration is fully engaged. The efforts are commendable under such tough circumstances.”

Commenting on the loss of life and property, Choudhary said, “So far, three fatalities have been confirmed. It is tragic that lives have been lost, and many Gujjar and Bakerwal families have also suffered the loss of livestock. While no compensation can undo the pain, the government will extend all possible help and ensure that relief reaches every affected household.”

He also assured strict accountability, stating, “I will summon the Regional Officer of the National Highway Authority to review their role. If there has been any negligence, it will not go unpunished.”

The Deputy CM concluded by urging the public to remain calm and not panic. “Through the media, I want to assure everyone that you are not alone, the government is with you, and we will stand by you until complete normalcy is restored.”
